Career Guidance
This is the age of Competition – as everything around us screams out loudly. Right from the time a person enters school to the time he / she retires from active service life – competition is all pervading. Right or wrong, it has become a part of our life; and in a country like India, with the demand-supply mismatch very much glaring, it is all the more evident.

Right from the early days, anxious parents are seen teaching their young children the merits of being hyper-competitive – whether at school, at play ground or even at home – sometimes with not so positive results. We at ACE believe that being competitive is a state of mind, and the desire to win, to excel should be present in all individuals if he / she is to etch out a name for himself – but never at the cost of inner peace and tranquillity.

In today’s education scenario, a student starts giving shape to his career from the 10th Board exam onwards. It is here that he makes his first choice between Science, Arts and Commerce. Even in Science, the student has to often make a choice between Computers and Biology. As you can very well see, each of these choices leads the students to different career choices. But, these are the conventional career choices of CA, Public Services, Medicine, Business Management, and Engineering. If one considers the economic and social scenario in India today, one would find some “unconventional” choices that are rapidly gaining in popularity among students from all disciplines. Some of these choices are Law, Hotel Management, Hospitality sector, Air hostess and cabin crew training, Apparel and product design among many others.

Today, we find speciality, niche institutes coming up that are offering a multitude of courses, programs and degrees and/or diplomas in these new age career choices. Institutes like NID, NIFT among many offering a career in design; government as well as private hospitality institutes backed by reputed names like the TAJ and OBEROI offering scope in the hotel and hospitality sector; education and business groups like Symbiosis and the Jindals providing the first step to a career in law etc. etc.

Students (and their parents) have to understand that in today’s India, they are not constrained in their career choices. They simply need to understand their likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses and plan and work accordingly. For this, they would have to start early and Class 8th is as good a time to start as any other.

We at ACE would be helping these young minds in making up their minds through proper and regular career counselling sessions in which we would also include their parents. We would like the children to fully realize their potential and not follow the well-worn tracks!

We wish a happy and prosperous career for all.
